Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an Occupational Therapist with at least 2 years of experience and Alaska OT licensure eligibility for a diverse inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation role in a rural Alaska setting.
Responsibilities
- Work in a rural hospital environment providing both inpatient and outpatient occupational therapy services
- Position may include coverage at a long-term care facility and involve home visits and village travel
- Day shift schedule for a 13-week contract
- Caseload includes all age groups and a wide variety of diagnoses within the Alaska OT scope of practice
- Use equipment such as hi-lo tables, therapeutic exercise equipment, ultrasound, electric stimulation modalities, and ADL training spaces
- Documentation performed on standard OT department systems and hospital equipment
- Responsibilities include developing and modifying individualized patient care plans using evidence-based practice across diverse age groups
- Role requires strong didactic skills to comply with Alaska’s Direct Access privilege for OT
- Collaboration with medical providers is frequent due to rural and remote settings
- Mandatory participation in new employee orientation, conducted on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
- All hospital-provided housing is shared, single-gender, and pet-free with private bedrooms and shared common areas
- No private housing is available; travelers must coordinate directly with the facility for accommodations
- Roundtrip economy airfare is reimbursed after arrival and proof of flight purchase
- Flight itinerary information must be submitted at least one week in advance of the start date
- Immunizations required include Hepatitis A/B, Varicella, MMR, T-Dap, and Polio, or documented history or titers
- Candidate must pass a math test for adult and pediatric medication calculations upon arrival
- No pets are allowed in housing and no exceptions are made for returning travelers regarding airport transportation

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
- Minimum 2 years of occupational therapy experience required
- Alaska OT license in good standing required, or eligible and awaiting Alaska licensure; license required if applicable
- Current NBCOT certification required
- Current BLS certification required for the entire duration of the assignment
- Ability to travel to remote villages and provide in-home care
- Physical, background check, immunization records, and other onboarding documents are required prior to travel
