PICU RN Job Details
- Location: Albuquerque, NM 87106 (New Mexico nursing jobs)
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1930-$1980
- Healthcare Setting: Level I Trauma, Children's Hospital, Teaching Hospital
- Contract Length: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Start Date: January 12, 2026
- Nursing Shifts: 3x12-hour night shifts (19:00 - 07:30); rotating shifts may be required
- Hours per Week: 36 guaranteed
- Weekend Requirement: 4-5 weekend shifts per schedule (Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights)
- Floating: Required to float to NICU; may assist as a resource in Pediatric Emergency Department (Peds ED)
- Charting System: Cerner EMR
- Scrub Color: Black
- Parking: Free onsite parking
PICU RN Qualifications
- Active NM Registered Nurse (RN) license (pending license accepted)
- Minimum 1.5 years of recent PICU nursing experience (within the last 2 years)
- Experience in Level I Trauma facility with strong trauma nursing skills
- BLS and PALS certifications (no RQI certs accepted)
- COVID-19 and flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions accepted with documentation)
- CRRT and ECMO experience preferred
- Proficiency with ventilators and inotropic drips
- Must reside more than 75 miles from facility
- Personal transportation required
PICU Nurse Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality pediatric nursing care to critically ill patients (neonates, infants, children, adolescents)
- Manage a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio in a 20-bed PICU
- Care for patients with diagnoses including respiratory distress/failure, renal failure, trauma, CRRT, ECMO, heme/onc, multi-system organ failure, and suicide attempts
- Utilize advanced clinical skills: external ventricular drain (EVD) management, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), ICP monitoring, IV vasopressors
- Float to NICU as needed; provide resource support in Pediatric ED (starting IVs, administering medications)
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (physical therapy, respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, social services)
- Document patient care using Cerner EMR
- Participate in hospital orientation and ongoing nursing education
