Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position involving Level I trauma care and night shifts.
Responsibilities
- Work in a 24-bed Cardiovascular ICU (Coronary Care Unit) within an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes cardiac surgery recovery, lung and thoracic transplant, Empellas, IABP, CRRT, ECMO, and other high-acuity cases
- High patient acuity with frequent 1:1 and 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratios
- Utilizes Phillips telemetry and Cerner EMR
- Required to float to other ICUs, all Tele units (ratio up to 4:1 on tele), and to alternate campuses as needed
- Intensivist coverage during the day and on call at night
- Work schedule consists of 12-hour night shifts (7pm-7am) with at least 3 weekend shifts every 4-week schedule and holiday rotation
- Scrub color is navy
- Primary duties include managing complex cardiovascular patients post-surgery and performing frequent bedside procedures
- No second interview required; initial clinical prescreening conducted
- Expect a two-day floor orientation and 12 hours of general orientation
- Travelers are prioritized to float before permanent staff
- Holiday shifts are based on unit needs and built into the rotation
- Must pass additional educational modules on lifts, restraints, and wound care as part of orientation
- Pharmacy and respiratory therapy available 24/7
- Candidates failing the SIMs Lab or dysrhythmia exam after two attempts will not be eligible for positions in the system for six months
- First-time travelers are accepted if all skill and test requirements are met
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU nursing experience with Level I trauma experience required
- ACLS and BLS certifications required; CCRN preferred
- Must pass a dysrhythmia (Relias) exam prior to offer (two attempts allowed)
- Must pass SIMs Lab skill assessment on day one for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
- Strong IV skills required as there is no dedicated IV team
- Must not have been employed by the hospital's system (CommonSpirit, CHI, Dignity) in the past year
- Must meet a 50-mile radius requirement from the facility for eligibility
- Professional references required: one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
- Must submit a copy of driver's license for consideration
- Natural hair color and no facial piercings permitted; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
