Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit position with strong MedSurg and PCU skills and night shift availability.
Responsibilities
- Work in a mixed acuity PCU/MedSurg unit of a short-term acute care hospital
- Care for patients with cardiovascular surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiology, endocrine, and oncology diagnoses
- Patient ratios are 1:5
- Special procedures include cardiac surgery (CABG, TAVR, SAVR, MVR, VATS), transcatheter interventions, and flex between MedSurg, Progressive, and ICU levels
- Special equipment includes telemetry, overhead lifts, arterial lines, central lines, and ventilators
- Night shifts: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirement
- Floating within scope to other units or affiliate hospitals as needed
- Charting uses Cerner EMR
- Responsible for managing complex cardiac, thoracic, oncology, and endocrine patient populations including progressive care and MedSurg cases
- May care for patients post cardiac surgery and participate in the management of various specialized cardiac procedures
- Training provided on departmental protocols and equipment
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Scrub attire required: black bottoms and red tops
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Perm or PRN employees must be away from the facility for 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Free parking is available on site
- Block scheduling may be discussed
Requirements
- Active IN or compact RN license required; pending license accepted but must be in hand before start
- Minimum 18 months of recent PCU or MedSurg RN experience required
- Current ACLS and BCLS (AHA or RQI) certifications required; NIHSS preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias, arterial lines, blood administration, and central/PICC line care
- Experience with titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred but not required
- Not accepting local candidates for this position
