Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)
Department: Radiology
Position Summary
Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Radiologic Technologist performs diagnostic imaging procedures to evaluate and identify pathological conditions. This role requires independent judgment in selecting imaging techniques, patient positioning, and radiation safety practices while delivering excellent patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Procedure Support
- Explain exam procedures and prepare patients for imaging
- Review requisitions and obtain relevant medical history
- Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures
- Administer IV contrast when required and monitor for reactions
Imaging & Equipment Operation
- Perform radiologic examinations using proper positioning and technical factors
- Manually control imaging equipment to obtain optimal diagnostic images
- Utilize patient immobilization when necessary
Radiation Safety
- Follow ALARA principles and radiation protection guidelines
- Apply appropriate shielding and dose-reduction techniques
Room & Supply Management
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms
- Stock and organize linens, contrast, and imaging supplies
- Ensure sterile and infection-control practices are followed
PACS & RIS
- Ensure proper image transfer and quality in PACS
- Resolve image errors and confirm image/series counts
- Complete all RIS documentation (study start, end, and completion)
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete all clinical, billing, and regulatory documentation
- Maintain patient privacy, confidentiality, and legal/ethical standards
Training & Team Support
- Assist with training of new hires and students
- Demonstrate customer service excellence using AIDET principles
- Promote teamwork, communication, respect, and patient-centered care
Work Environment
- Work in hospital imaging areas including IPD, OR, and ER
- Use of fixed and mobile imaging units
- Potential exposure to radiation, high-voltage equipment, and infectious patients
- Occasional lifting of equipment or patients over 10 lbs
Required Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must maintain continuing education requirements
Certification & Licensure
- ARRT Registered in Radiography
(Registry-eligible candidates must obtain ARRT within 6 months of hire) - BLS (Healthcare Provider)
