Job Description
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and collaboratively provides direct care, applies appropriate interventions, and evaluates patient progress. The ED RN demonstrates skill in using various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions to manage both life-threatening and routine emergency situations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct primary assessments of critical need and detect any major deviations from the norm.
- Establish rapport with patients and families, addressing comfort needs and providing updates.
- Assess physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients across all age groups.
- Use direct observation and various data sources to conduct thorough assessments.
- Encourage mutual trust and cooperation among team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Prepare patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments.
- Provide education on post-emergency care and assess patient/family learning styles.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Two years of acute hospital experience as a Registered Nurse.
- One year of ED hospital experience as a Registered Nurse.
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Stroke Certification (Must be AHA or RQI certified).
- Current New York State RN Licensure.
