Critical Care RN – Job Summary (Short Version)
Unit Details:
32 beds (Mixed ICU, PCU, MedSurg)
Ratios: ICU 1:2 | PCU 1:4 | MedSurg 1:5
Required Certifications:
ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
Patient Population:
Heavy cath lab (coronary & peripheral angiograms/stents)
Sepsis, neurosurgery, COPD, CHF, drug & alcohol abuse
Occasional IABP & Impella (higher acuity to core staff)
Occasional pediatrics (core staff)
Experience Requirements:
First-time travelers accepted
Prefer ICU background; PCU experience required if no ICU
Must titrate drips
Must be comfortable taking ICU, PCU, or MedSurg assignments
Common Drips:
ICU: Standard critical care drips
PCU: Cardizem, insulin, pressors/inotropes, heparin, Lasix, bumex
Support & Staffing:
Charge nurse each shift (responds to codes/rapids)
Hospitalist in-house 24/7 (no intensivist)
RT in ICU 24/7 (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, heated high flow)
Tele tech monitors ICU, 3rd & 4th floor, some ER (Phillips monitors)
Tech ratios: 1:8–16
Scheduling:
12-hour shifts: 5:45a–6p / 5:45p–6a
Every other (or most) weekends
Holidays as needed
No call required
No floating outside unit
Scrubs: Royal blue
Orientation:
1 week hospital orientation (includes EPIC training)
2 unit-specific shifts
Radius Rule:
Cannot live in North Platte, NE
