Position Summary
The Med/Surg RN provides comprehensive nursing care to patients with a wide range of medical conditions and post-surgical needs. The nurse collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe, patient-centered care while maintaining clinical excellence and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for adult and geriatric patients in a Medical-Surgical unit
- Perform patient assessments, develop care plans, and monitor patient progress
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and nursing protocols
- Monitor vital signs, laboratory results, and patient responses to treatment
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and healthcare team members to ensure coordinated care
- Maintain accurate patient documentation in electronic medical records
- Respond quickly and effectively to changes in patient conditions
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, patient safety standards, and regulatory guidelines
- Support a positive and collaborative team environment within the nursing unit
Education and Certification Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in California or compact eligibility if applicable
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
- Minimum of two years of recent Med/Surg nursing experience preferred
- Previous travel nursing experience is a plus but not required
