Job Title: Step Down Unit (RN)
Location: Altoona PA 16601
Shift: 12 hour shifts
Hours: AM 7:00am-7:30pm or PM 7:30pm-7:00am available
Local Pay: $50.00 - $53.00 per hour
Scheduled Pay: Weekly

Step Down Unit (RN) Duties Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to patients requiring close monitoring but not intensive care, including cardiac, post-surgical, and medically complex patients.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including frequent monitoring of vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and neurological status.
- Interpret telemetry data and promptly identify and respond to changes in patient condition.
- Administer medications, including IV therapies and titratable drips (per facility protocol), and monitor patient response.
- Manage patients with conditions such as heart failure, respiratory distress, post-operative recovery, and sepsis.
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Provide care for patients requiring advanced interventions such as oxygen therapy, BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, and wound care.
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
- Respond to rapid changes in patient condition, initiating emergency interventions and escalating care when necessary.
- Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring continuity of care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
- Support patient recovery and promote safe transitions to lower levels of care or discharge.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and uphold patient safety standards.
- Act as a patient advocate while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Step Down Unit (RN) Requirements:
- Active RN Pennsylvania State License
- 1 year Step Down, PCU, or Intermediate Care Unit experience
- BLS and ACLS required
