Job Summary:
The general medical-surgical nursing position is located in Henderson, Kentucky. This role involves night shifts and requires candidates to bring their license on the first day. The position supports a 45-bed unit with a highly experienced staff, offering an opportunity to work in a teaching hospital environment. The candidate must be prepared to float within the skillset and adhere to specified schedule and certification requirements.
Job Details:
- Location: Henderson, KY
- Shift Time: 12-hour Nights, 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
- Schedule: Night shift with a guaranteed 36 hours per week; may accept up to 48 hours upon request.
- Required Qualifications: Current active compact license; Associate Degree or Certificate; AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification; minimum of two years of strong Medical-Surgical (MS) experience and one travel assignment; recent Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience with EPIC (including required checkoff class).
- Preferred Qualifications: None specified.
- Float: First to float within skillset; includes potential to float between two nearby campuses with a 2-hour notice; mid-shift float within the same campus is likely.
- Additional Information:
- Guaranteed hours: 36 (48 hours acceptable upon request).
- Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts.
- Unit requires three call-ins, which can result in termination.
- No COVID-19 vaccine required (subject to change).
- Patients present with diverse conditions including gallbladder, colectomy, appendectomy, joint replacements, COVID-19, GI bleeds, CHF, COPD, sepsis, UTI, and respiratory issues.
- Skills needed: PIV insertion, chest tube/indwelling drain management, CBI, drip management (heparin, cardizem), PEGs/NGs, ostomy care, remote telemonitoring, blood product administration, NIHSS/dysphagia screening, assessment, and critical thinking skills.
- Responsibly support student and new-hire precepting as part of being a teaching hospital.
