Job Summary: Emergency Room Clinical Nurse (Sitka, Alaska) The organization is seeking a clinical nurse to coordinate and perform a variety of nursing care procedures for patients of all ages. The role requires independent clinical decision-making during scheduled shifts, adherence to provider orders and nursing policies, and the ability to respond calmly to emergent situations. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Rotating shift; 12 shift hours; minimum 36 hours per week.
- Start Date: 08/03/2026.
- Required Qualifications: Valid, current, full and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Alaska; Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be held upon hire; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 6 months of hire date; flu vaccination requirement at time of submission to be considered; Education required to obtain a valid, current, full and unrestricted RN license in the State of Alaska; one-year clinical nurse experience is preferred (minimum experience requirement not specified as required).
- Preferred Qualifications: Prior clinical nurse experience is preferred; prior experience in the area of specialty is preferred.
- Certifications/Training: Must complete all mandatory training and competency checks.
- Responsibilities: Provide safe, therapeutic, and efficient patient care using appropriate infection control measures; assess patients using interviewing, observation, and the nursing process; document assessment findings, reassessments, and patient responses to care; initiate, manage, and document nursing procedures consistent with scientific principles and departmental policy; administer age-specific medications and therapeutics accurately; coordinate patient care activities with physicians and other members of the healthcare team; anticipate potential problems, respond to changes in patient status, and initiate actions to reduce, correct, or prevent risks; communicate and educate patients and significant others, including discharge information and participation in patient care conferences as applicable; provide counseling and psychosocial support as needed; maintain confidentiality of patient information; lead and supervise CNA/Tech as delegated and supervise assigned nursing tasks; support orientation of new staff, travelers, and students as assigned; complete annual competencies and maintain certification and licensure; refer unresolved patient/visitor/co-worker issues to appropriate leadership per policy; attend and participate in at least 50% of departmental staff meetings and comply with scheduling guidelines.
- Additional Information: Flu vaccination is required at time of submission to be considered. Clinical decisions are made independently during the scheduled shift, with consultation available in difficult situations requiring additional input or resources.
