SICU RN – 2E Surgical ICU
Local Rate Rule
- Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local.
- Local travelers receive a rate reduction of $8/hour.
Required Certifications

Unit Details
- Unit: 2E SICU
- Beds: 16 ICU beds + 2 procedural beds
- Ratios:
- 1:1 High-acuity patients (ECMO, CRRT, immediate post-op hearts, MTP, OPO)
- 1:2 Standard ICU assignments
- 1:3 Floor/Med-Surg status patients
Patient Population
- Cardiovascular Surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, AAA)
- Trauma Patients (Level II Trauma Center)
- STEMI / NSTEMI
- Vascular Surgery
- Neurosurgery
- General Surgery
- Orthopedic Surgery
- ENT Surgery
- Post-operative ICU patients
Required Experience
✅ Strong Surgical ICU background
✅ High-acuity ICU experience required
✅ Comfortable managing complex post-op surgical patients
Preferred Experience
- CRRT
- IABP
- Impella
- ECMO
- Immediate post-op open heart recovery
Critical Care Skills
Must be comfortable titrating:
- Epinephrine
- Norepinephrine
- Vasopressin
- Dobutamine
- Dopamine
- Milrinone
- Phenylephrine (Neo)
- Propofol
- Precedex
- Heparin
- Insulin
Staffing & Support
- Intensivist in-house 24/7
- RT in-house 24/7
- Charge Nurse every shift
- House Supervisor available 24/7
- Nursing Assistant available on days
Monitoring & Equipment
- Ventilators
- BiPAP
- CPAP
- Vapotherm
- GE Telemetry Monitoring
- RN responsible for rhythm interpretation and documentation
Scheduling
- Days: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Every Other Weekend
- Every Other Holiday
- Manager schedules travelers based on unit needs and approved RTO
Floating Requirements
- May float to MICU if needed
- If census is low, may serve as:
- Patient Observer
- Suicide Watch
- BiPAP Safety Observer
Orientation
- System onboarding and CBT completion
- Two SICU orientation shifts
- Skills checklist completion required
