Job Summary:
Step Down Unit Nurse opportunity in Weirton, West Virginia. This 12-hour night shift position involves providing specialized care for cardiac and post-operative patients. This role requires a professional with a strong background in step down or progressive care nursing and the ability to manage complex patient needs within a fast-paced environment.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts with a minimum of 36 hours per week, including weekends as scheduled.
- Required Qualifications: Valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of West Virginia, with at least 2 years of experience in a step down or progressive care unit. Certifications required include BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support).
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with cardiac monitoring and titrating cardiac drips such as cardizem, amio, nitro, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, and angiomax is preferred.
- Duties: Includes performing activities of daily living, vital signs, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, and blood sugars.
- Patient Population: Cardiac patients, post pneumonia, post catheterization, seizure management, ETOH-CIWA protocols, pacemaker patients, among others.
- Team and Equipment: The unit has a charge nurse on each shift who may take assignments as necessary. Registered nurses will troubleshoot and manage respiratory therapy equipment including vents, Cpap, BiPap, and High Flow devices. Telemetry monitors are available, and nurses are expected to read and interpret strips, print measurements, and identify rhythms.
- Additional Information: The unit operates 24/7 with hospitalist and intensivist coverage. RT staff is available around the clock. Orientation includes 2 days of general orientation and 1 day with a preceptor. Scrub color is navy blue. No float restrictions, but travelers may float to any inpatient unit.
