Job Summary
Operating Room (OR) Open Heart Nurse position located in Springfield, Illinois. This role involves providing specialized perioperative care for cardiac surgery patients within a Level I trauma center. The candidate will participate in a variety of advanced cardiovascular procedures, working alongside a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced acute care hospital environment.
Job Details
- Schedule: 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts, starting on 07/27/2026, minimum of 40 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: 3 years of experience required in operating room or open heart procedures, BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Preferred Qualifications: Trauma Level I experience, professional knowledge of laser safety, specimen handling, and universal protocol procedures, and previous hospital or trauma center experience
- Special Procedures/Unit Details: The role involves working in cardiac and thoracic surgical settings, including procedures such as aortic aneurysm repair, CABG, TAVR, mediastinoscopy, VATS, and endoscopic surgeries. Candidates must have experience with vascular and endoscopic procedures, including bronchoscopy, laparoscopy, and Whipple procedures
- Certifications: Active ACLS and BLS required, Illinois license must be active or in application process
- On-Call & Additional Requirements: On-call duty 1-2 nights per week and every 5th weekend; float within scope may be required; minimum of 3 years' trauma or MOR experience prior; no more than 5 days of RTO; must be prepared for holiday shifts
- Facility & Patient Care Details: Acute care hospital with 562 beds, designated Level I trauma center, providing care to adult and geriatric patient populations; daily census approximately 10 patients; parking permit required and provided at no cost, virtual orientation on Day 1
- Compliance & Submission: Candidate must review and respond to compliance requirements including licensure, background checks, and documentation within specified deadlines; references may be pending at submission
