Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to cardiac PCU patients including myocardial infarction, primary arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, heart failure, and stroke patients with cardiac involvement
- Manage pre- and post-operative care for open-heart surgery and vascular surgery patients, including chest tube care and sternal precautions
- Perform telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Administer blood and blood products; perform or assist with cardioversion, defibrillation, and epicardial pacer management
- Support specialized structural heart patients including VAD and TAVR, and manage LVAD and open-heart post-op patients (24–28 hours post-op)
- Float to like units as required; flexibility with scheduling including 3 of 5 designated holidays
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience with at least 1 year in a cardiac telemetry or PCU setting
- Surgical telemetry experience required, including open-heart surgery and vascular surgery (groin/radial band management)
- Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Epic EMR experience is a hard-stop requirement
- Valid RN license; compact license must be active and in hand at time of submission
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- This unit does not accept first-time travelers
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with VAD and TAVR patient populations
- Proficiency with CPAP/BiPAP, trach care, and breathing treatments
- Experience with pre- and post-cath lab patients with or without interventions
- NIH stroke scale experience of 2–3 years in a telemetry environment
