Job Summary:
Emergency Room (ER) specialty in a Level 1 trauma setting. This position involves providing high-acuity emergency care to a diverse patient population ranging from neonates to the elderly. The role requires proficiency in managing critical and complex cases, including stroke, cardiac arrest, and trauma patients, with an emphasis on rapid assessment and intervention in an acute care environment.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour daytime shifts, with shift times starting at 7a, 8a, or 9a, averaging 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC or TNS. Valid Illinois license or confirmation of application process. At least 2 years of nursing experience, including previous travel assignments preferred. Experience with vasopressor drips, cardiac medication titration, and management of critically ill patients.
- Preferred Qualifications: SANE RN experience and background working at a teaching hospital with residents.
- Float: Float rotation may be required to assist all units as needed; this occurs infrequently.
- Additional Information: The ER team operates with a staffing of a minimum of 3 attending physicians, charge nurses, and ED techs with a ratio of 1:9. RNs are expected to troubleshoot respiratory equipment, interpret monitor strips, and collaborate with respiratory therapists. Ultrasound or CT imaging will be performed by radiology staff; nurses and techs draw labs. The department follows a 12-hour shift schedule with every other weekend and holiday rotation, with flexible requests accommodated. There is no call or standby requirement.
