Key Responsibilities
- Provide step-down level nursing care for a cardiac-focused patient population including post-procedure cardiac patients (cath/stents/interventions, pacemakers), arrhythmias, CVA, detox/CIWA, sepsis, DKA, respiratory distress, and patients requiring feeding tubes
- Perform telemetry monitoring and 12-lead EKG interpretation; travelers will be required to pass telemetry competency tests
- Initiate and titrate cardiac and critical drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitroglycerin, Insulin, and Heparin
- Conduct NIHSS assessments, dysphagia screenings, and strong neurological assessments; manage post-heart cath care including femoral and TR band management
- Operate and monitor respiratory support equipment including chest tubes, CPAP, and Optiflow; perform PIV insertion
- Float within skillset to a secondary campus with a minimum of 2 hours notice; mid-shift float within the same campus may also be required; may assist with precepting students and new hires as this is a teaching facility
Required Qualifications
- Current, active RN compact license required
- AHA BLS certification required
- AHA ACLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience with at least 1 full year in a step-down unit; at least 1 prior travel assignment and Trauma Level II experience required
- Recent Epic EMR experience required (a checkoff class will be required upon start)
- Must live at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Strong critical thinking and assessment skills with the ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with sepsis protocols and management
- Familiarity with CPAP, Optiflow, and chest tube management
- Collaborative, professional demeanor with the ability to work effectively within an experienced, stable unit team
