Contract | Night Shift (18:30–06:30) | Every other weekend required | Minimum of 2 holidays within contract period
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a 33-bed ICU with an average daily census of 16, maintaining a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2–3 for adult patients
- Manage and titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
- Read, interpret, and document cardiac monitor strips using GE monitoring equipment, with tele tech oversight also in place
- Care for a diverse patient population including trauma, cardiac, stroke, sepsis, overdose/substance abuse, post-stent, pacemaker placement, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress cases
- Operate and troubleshoot respiratory equipment ranging from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation
- Float to PCU or occasionally MedSurg as needed, maintaining comparable patient ratios (1:4 or 1:5)
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in good standing
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Must successfully pass a unit-specific open-book skills exam during orientation with a score of 90% or higher (administered on Wednesdays); failure to pass will result to contract termination
- Valid driver's license required at time of submittal
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Candidates currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity Health, are not eligible
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; compliance is required for contract continuation
- If placed on call and called back in, must be able to arrive within 30 minutes
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior ICU travel or contract nursing experience
- Experience titrating cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation in a critical care setting
- Familiarity with GE cardiac monitoring systems
- Experience caring for stroke, trauma, and complex cardiac patient populations
