Contract | Night Shift | 12-Hour Shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | Every-other-weekend requirement
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on an 18-bed Medical Surgical / Infectious Disease unit, managing patients with diagnoses including infectious disease, isolation precautions, COVID, MRSA, C-Diff, and related conditions
- Maintain patient ratios of 1:5–6 (1:4 for COVID patients), working alongside a team typically consisting of 3–4 RNs per shift and 2 CNAs per shift
- Administer and manage IV medications including Heparin, antibiotics, and other standard MedSurg IV medications; no cardiac drips required
- Adhere to and enforce strict isolation precautions and infection control protocols appropriate to patient diagnoses
- Monitor patients who may be on CPAP, BiPAP, or high-flow oxygen, with respiratory therapy managing equipment; remote telemetry is available and monitored by monitor techs — RNs are not required to read or interpret strips
- Float to other MedSurg units as needed; if floated to a telemetry unit, patient assignments will remain within the nurse's skillset
Required Qualifications
- Active, unrestricted RN license valid for the state of West Virginia
- Current, unexpired BLS certification required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Strong working knowledge of Medical Surgical nursing, infectious disease care, and isolation precautions
- Ability to work every-other-weekend and holidays based on unit needs
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience caring for patients with infectious disease diagnoses such as MRSA, C-Diff, and COVID
- Familiarity with CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen in a non-ICU setting
- Comfort with floating to various MedSurg units as needed
