Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to critically ill or injured infants, children, and adolescents in a 12-bed, all private-room Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
- Monitor patients efficiently using state-of-the-art equipment, including ventilators, high-flow oxygen systems, and IV/feeding pumps
- Collaborate with a pediatric critical care physician-led team to deliver patient- and family-centered care
- Float to NICU (caring for "feeders and growers" level patients), General Pediatrics, and ED patient holds as needed — willingness to float is required
- Participate in holiday coverage as required; contractors are expected to work 1–2 of the upcoming Summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed
- Document and manage patient care using the EPIC EMR system
Required Qualifications
- Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission
- Minimum 24 months of current PICU / Pediatric Intensive Care Unit experience
- BLS certification (AHA or ARC) required
- PALS certification (AHA) required
- Proficiency with EPIC EMR required
- Willingness and ability to float to NICU, General Pediatrics, and ED patient holds as needed
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible (based on driver's license)
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with ventilators and high-flow oxygen equipment
- Experience with Alaris IV pumps and feeding pumps
- Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the past 24 months
- PICU-specific skills checklist completed and on file
