Job Summary:
- Position: Operating Room RN Traveler
- Location: UnityPoint Health – Iowa Methodist Medical Center and affiliated campuses in Des Moines, IA
- Travel Radius: Must live at least 50 miles from facility based on driver’s license (no locals)
- Separation Policy: Former FTE/PRN UPH employees (within last 12 months) not eligible; prior travelers only may return
- Experience Required:
- Minimum 24 months current operating room (OR) experience
- Circulating and operating room experience required
- Scrub experience highly preferred
- Must have travel assignment completed within last 15 months (no first-time travelers)
- Experience with General, DaVinci Robotics, Pediatrics, Trauma required
- Additional experience in Neuro, Ortho (trauma), Gyn, Uro, Transplants, Plastics, ENT, Vascular highly preferred
- Scrubbing experience in Orthopedic required
- Level II Trauma experience required; Level I Trauma highly preferred
- EPIC EMR experience within last 3 years required
- Duties:
- Handle average caseload of 35–50 cases/day
- Patient ratios 1:1, 16 bed OR, 16 suites (run 12-14 routinely)
- Float between Iowa Methodist MC, Iowa Lutheran, and Iowa Methodist campuses
- Perform both scrub and circulate roles (preferred)
- Utilize advanced technology (DaVinci robots, Stealth Neuro navigation, Synthes/Stryker for ortho trauma)
- Provide care across multiple service lines (Cardiac, PV, Neuro, Ortho Trauma, Robotics, Gyn, Uro, General, Pediatrics, Transplants, some ENT/Plastics)
- Weekend call covers Friday end of shift to Monday 6:30am
- Required to work 1–2 major summer holidays unless unit is closed
- Orientation Dates: 9/8, 9/14, 9/21 (preference for 9/8 & 9/14 starts)
- Other Requirements:
- Active Iowa or Compact RN license
- AHA or ARC BLS certification
- Driver’s license
- Skills checklist and updated resume with 24 months OR experience
- Professional reference from supervisor/manager within last 24 months preferred
- Scrubs provided
- Must be flexible to float and work across all campuses
- Facility: UnityPoint Health – Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, IA (Level I Trauma Center)
