Key Responsibilities
- Provides routine and complex nursing care utilizing the nursing process — including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation — for assigned patients in a Labor and Delivery setting.
- Addresses complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with scope of practice.
- Administers medications and treatments per appropriate protocol; monitors for side effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatment.
- Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers; identifies issues and connects to appropriate resources.
- Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers as needed to effectively manage the clinical situation.
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in the state of Texas or a compact state license.
- Current certification required from one of the following: AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM).
- Current BLS certification required (American Heart Association only).
- Current NRP certification required.
- Current ACLS certification required (American Heart Association only).
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in Labor and Delivery or a related perinatal nursing specialty.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Completion of a Perinatal RN Residency program or recent practice in a perinatal setting.
- Experience managing contingencies in complex clinical nursing environments.
