Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Surg experience and an active NC or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- Night shift position, 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM
- Transitional Care Unit within a large academic medical center (885 licensed beds, Level 1 Trauma, Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center)
- 20-bed unit split across two pods (5A and 5B), primarily medical patients including CHF, COPD, kidney/liver/GI/respiratory conditions, CIWA patients, infections, and wound care cases; any service line may admit
- Patient ratio of 1:5
- Required non-titrating drips include Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix; experience with Cardizem and Amiodarone is preferred
- EMR: Epic; IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell
- Bedside monitors with a central monitor at the nurses' station for telemetry monitoring
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating within scope of practice at the hospital is possible
- No on-call or call-back responsibilities
- 50% of assigned holidays must be worked per contract
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
- Unit support includes 1 CNA per pod, a shared charge nurse (who may take patients), phlebotomy 24/7, respiratory therapy 24/7, hospitalists 24/7, and residents 24/7
- Orientation includes a New Employee Orientation (NEO) followed by 2 shifts on the unit
- RTO of up to 7 days may be approved during the contract
- Schedule is built in 6-week increments; travelers are placed into open slots in the schedule
- Royal blue scrubs are required
- Free parking is available on-site
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in trachs, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, and cardiac rhythm interpretation required
- Experience with central line blood draws required
- Prior experience at a Level 1 trauma or academic teaching hospital setting is beneficial given the facility type
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN is required for consideration
