Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience and an active NC or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Transitional Care Unit (TCU) within a 885-bed Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center and Stroke/Chest Pain Center
- 20-bed unit split across two pods (5A and 5B)
- Patient population includes general medical patients with diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, kidney/liver/GI/respiratory conditions, CIWA, infections, and wounds; general surgical and other service line admissions are possible
- Patient ratio is 1:5
- Required non-titrating drips include Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix; experience with Cardizem and Amiodarone is preferred
- Skills required include trachs, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, central line blood draws, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- EMR is Epic; experience preferred
- IV pumps are Alaris; medication dispensing via Omnicell
- Bedside monitors with a central monitor at the nurses' station for telemetry monitoring
- Day shift: 0630–1900 (36 hours/week)
- Every other weekend rotation required
- 50% of holidays during the contract are required
- Floating within scope of practice at the hospital is possible
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Unit support includes 1 CNA per pod, a shared charge nurse (who may take patients), 24/7 phlebotomy, RT, hospitalists, and residents
- Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 shifts on the unit
- Schedule is built in 6-week increments; travelers are plugged into open slots
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved during the contract
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Free parking is available on-site
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
- Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Experience with non-titrating drips (Heparin, Lasix, Protonix) required
- Proficiency with trachs, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care/vacs, drains, central line blood draws, and cardiac rhythm interpretation required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration
- First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
