Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) on the night shift. This position is ideal for nurses with strong critical care and post-operative cardiac surgery experience. First-time travelers are welcome if they have prior CVICU experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for critically ill cardiovascular and post-operative cardiac surgery patients.
- Monitor and manage patients following CABG, valve replacement surgeries (MVR/AVR), TAVR, MitraClip procedures, STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, and other complex cardiac conditions.
- Perform continuous hemodynamic monitoring and assess cardiac output.
- Care for patients requiring advanced cardiac support, including:
- Impella
- ECMO
- Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Multiple vasoactive/inotropic infusions
- Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
- Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, perfusionists, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes while maintaining compliance with hospital policies.

- Average Daily Census: 3–5 patients
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
Patient Population
- Post-operative cardiac surgery patients (CABG, AVR, MVR)
- Cardiac surgery readmissions and ICU bounce-backs
- Structural heart procedures (TAVR, MitraClip)
- Pre-operative cardiac surgery patients
- STEMI/NSTEMI
- Cardiogenic shock
- Patients undergoing Inari procedures
Requirements
- Active Maryland RN License
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU nursing experience
- First-time travelers accepted with prior CVICU experience
- Current BLS Certification
- Current ACLS Certification
- Current CPI Certification
Preferred Certifications
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)
- Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCNN)
Schedule & Additional Requirements
- Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Required as scheduled
- Floating: May float to the Medical Surgical ICU (MSICU) as needed
- On-Call: 24–32 hours per rotating 8-week schedule
