Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Days | 12-Hour Shifts (0630–1830) | Nights available (1830–0630) | Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday) | Minimum of 2 holidays within contract period
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a 33-bed ICU with an average daily census of 16, managing common diagnoses including trauma, cardiac conditions, stroke, sepsis, overdose/substance abuse, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
- Maintain a 1:2–3 nurse-to-patient ratio for adult ICU patients
- Titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation medications
- Read, interpret, and document cardiac monitor strips using GE monitoring equipment, with tele tech oversight support
- Manage patients on respiratory support ranging from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation, troubleshooting RT equipment as needed
- Float to PCU or occasionally MedSurg as needed, maintaining the standard ratio assigned on those units (1:4 or 1:5); respond within 30 minutes if called back in from on-call status
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Must successfully pass a unit-specific open-book skills exam during orientation with a score of 90% or higher (administered on Wednesdays)
- Valid driver's license required at time of submittal
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Candidates may not hold concurrent full-time, part-time, or PRN employment with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity Health
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; compliance is required for contract continuation
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior ICU experience with high-acuity adult patient populations including cardiac, trauma, and neurological cases
- Experience titrating vasoactive and sedation drips in a critical care setting
- Familiarity with GE cardiac monitoring systems
- Experience managing patients on mechanical ventilation and advanced respiratory support
