Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit
Location

Contract | 13 Weeks | 12-Hour Day Shifts | Expected 36 hours/week
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a Step Down / PCU setting, managing a patient population that includes sepsis, CHF, COPD, DKA, cirrhosis, dementia, and surgical patients (urology, abdominal, orthopedic)
- Initiate and titrate drips including insulin, heparin, and cardiac drips
- Perform telemetry interpretation; travelers are required to pass telemetry competency tests
- Float within skillset as first to float; potential cross-campus float with a minimum 2-hour notice provided
- Document and chart using Epic; completion of a required Epic checkoff class upon start
- May be required to precept students and new hires as this is a teaching facility
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 solid year of Step Down / PCU experience and 1 prior travel assignment
- Current active compact RN license required
- AHA BLS certification required
- AHA ACLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Recent Epic charting experience required
- Must live at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- PIV insertion, chest tube and indwelling drain management, CBI, and continuous BiPAP management
- Blood product administration and neutropenic precautions experience
- Experience managing stable home vents and stable drips (e.g., Lasix, Protonix)
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills; ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment
