Job Summary:
Intensive Care Unit Neurological (ICU Neuro) nurse position in Wausau, Wisconsin. This role involves providing specialized neurological critical care in a dedicated neuroscience unit. The nurse will be responsible for assessing and caring for patients with neurological conditions, including stroke, traumatic brain injury, head injuries, and neurosurgical cases, utilizing advanced bedside procedures and assessment skills.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license, BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification, Associate Degree or Certificate in Nursing, and a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience. Prior neuro intensive care or medical/surgical ICU experience with strong assessment skills in neuro required; 1 or more travel assignments preferred.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a Neuro Interventionalist, familiarity with external ventricular drain (EVD) management, and intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring.
- Additional Information: The unit is an 8-bed neuro ICU caring for patients with stroke, traumatic brain injury, head injury, and neurosurgical conditions. Procedures include neuro assessments, line placements, intubation, bolt and drain placements, and management of neurosurgical devices. Will float between Neuro Critical Care ICU and Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU), with potential for float to other units as needed. The role requires resilience, independent task management, and adaptability. This position involves working nights with holiday rotation every other week. During flu season, unvaccinated travelers must wear masks at all times as per policy.
